14 Wing Greenwood Participates in the Back to Baddeck Relay Flight

Apr. 17, 2009

14 WING GREENWOOD - Aircraft Commander Major Al Harvey and his CP-140 Aurora crew handed off a baton to Major Deirdre Peet, the Canadian Forces Detachment Commander Joint Task Force North in Iqaluit on April 8, 2009 as part of the Canadian Aeronautical Preservation Association's (CAPA) "Back to Baddeck" vintage aircraft relay flight project.

The cross-country relay is a way for CAPA to celebrate 100 years of flight in Canada and the northern part of the relay started at Greenwood, Nova Scotia (N.S.) on March 5, 2009 where the baton was flown to Saint John's, Newfoundland. The baton will eventually make its way to Comox, British Columbia and then back to N.S. for its International Air Show that will be held in Yarmouth in September, 2009.

The baton contains commemorative stamps issued by Canada Post as well as special mint coins from the Royal Canadian Mint. The relay will stop at various museums across the country, provincial capitals and Ottawa where each of the museums, provincial Premiers and the Governor General of Canada will be presented with a stamp and a coin.
