Once again this year, members of 16 Wing, CFB Borden and the people of the City of Barrie and its surroundings will join efforts to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.  This aerial battle, which took place during the summer of 1940, not only represented a turning point of the Second World War, but also the baptism by fire for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

To mark this 65th anniversary, the RCAF Ensign was raised on Monday, 12 September, at Memorial Square in Barrie.  This event also signalled the beginning of "Royal Canadian Air Force Week" in Barrie.  The flag will be flown until after the Battle of Britain Parade, which will be held at the same place at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, September 18.

All are invited for the Sunday parade.  Dress for military personnel will be 1A.  For information, contact the 16 Wing Public Affairs Officer, Master Warrant Officer Normand Marion at 424-1200, local 2815.
