Major-General JAJ Parent, Commander 1 Canadian Air Division/Canadian NORAD Region (1 Cdn Air Div/CANR), has presented Team Winnipeg member Lieutenant Colonel BSP Baker with the General Service Medal with South West Asia ribbon during a ceremony held here 28 September.
The General Service Medal (GSM) is awarded to members of the CF and members of allied forces serving with the CF who deploy outside of Canada - but not necessarily into a theatre of operations - to provide direct support, on a full-time basis, to operations in the presence of an armed enemy. The GSM is issued with mission or theatre specific ribbon specifying the operations being recognized.
