17 Wing's 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron is equipped with 5 CC-130 Hercules to meet its varied roles of airlift, search and rescue and air-to-air refuelling (AAR).

435's CC-130H (T) Hercules tankers have provided tactical air refuelling capability within Canada's Air Force.

As a SAR platform, the CC-130 provides the primary response capability within the Prairie and Arctic regions. Helicopters from 8 Wing Trenton can be called in as a secondary resource if required.

In their airlift role, 17 Wing CC-130s have carried personnel, equipment and humanitarian assistance throughout Canada and to troubled spots around the world.

17 Wing's 402 ‘City of Winnipeg’ Squadron’s 4 modified CT–142 Dash 8's act as Airborne Combat Systems Officers (ACSOs) and Airborne Electronic Systems Operators (AESOPs) trainers for 1 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (1 CFFTS).

17 Wing's 440 "Vampire" Transport Squadron based at Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, fly that rugged work-horse of the Canadian North, the Canadian - designed and - produced de Havilland Canada CC-138 Twin Otter, in support of Canadian Forces activities across the North.
