Colonel Ryan Deming

Inspired by aviation at a young age, Ryan Deming enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1993. After a series of progressive leadership roles, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel in 2019.

He started his career at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) in 1997. After earning his navigator (ACSO) wings, Colonel Deming joined 429 Transport Squadron in Trenton, Ontario, as a tactical and strategic navigator for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Over four years, he participated in several deployments, including a six month posting to the Regional Air Movements Coordination Centre in Italy, and as a Tactical Navigator in the Middle East and numerous other locations around the globe.

In 2002, Colonel Deming was posted to 426 Transport Training Squadron in Trenton as part of the Tactical Training Flight. After spending three years as a Thunderbird, he transitioned to 1 Canadian Air Division Det Transport and Rescue Standards and Evaluation Team (TRSET) as the RCAF Tactical Navigator Standards Officer and Air Mobility Fleet Electronic Warfare Officer.

In 2008, Colonel Deming returned to 8 Wing Trenton as the Standards Flight Commander for 436 Transport Squadron. During this tour, he deployed to several locations including a six month tour as Officer Commanding the Tactical Airlift Unit in Afghanistan. Upon return in 2009, he was appointed Deputy Commanding Officer until his departure in July 2010.

From 2014 to 2016, Colonel Deming was honoured to command 426 Transport Training Squadron Thunderbirds and support the development of the RCAF’s future leaders.

Colonel Deming’s staff tours include positions at Canadian Expeditionary Force Command (CEFCOM), Staff Officer for the Chief of Defence, Deputy Director Strategic Coordination for the Chief of Force Development, and Executive Assistant to the Commander RCAF.

Colonel Deming is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff Program at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Ontario, and holds a Masters of Business Administration from TUI University. Colonel Deming is also a graduate of United States Air Force (USAF) Air War College at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL, where he earned his Master of Strategic Studies. He was invested as an officer of the Order of Military Merit in 2017.
