Canada celebrates 149 years as a nation on July 1, 2016. The airmen and airwomen of the Royal Canadian Air Force wish all Canadians everywhere – at home and around the world – a very happy Canada Day.

If you’re in Ottawa on Canada Day, watch for a flypast over Parliament Hill of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CF-18 Demonstration Hornet and Snowbirds teams. The flypast will take place during the Canada Day noon show on Parliament Hill, which begins at 12 noon.

This year, the CF-18 Demonstration Team and the Snowbirds are commemorating the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP), one of the most successful training plans the world has ever seen.

The BCATP ran from 1939 to 1945 and trained 131,553 aircrew for the fight against Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Pilots, wireless operators, air gunners and navigators trained in BCATP schools across Canada to serve in the air forces of Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
