Dr. Guevremont, a military historian, was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 419 Tactical Fighter Squadron in Cold Lake, AB in August 2015.

Honorary Colonel Guevremont was born in Montreal and raised on the South Shore in Varennes, QC.  Following his training in Air Maintenance during CEGEP and practical experience in air maintenance at Pratt & Whitney and Bombardier Aerospace, he completed his undergrad degree in History at McGill University. He travelled extensively to battlefields and military museums in Europe and the United States before receiving a scholarship to undertake a Master’s degree in War Studies at the Royal Military College in Kingston ON as a civilian. As a result of a cross-country road trip, Honorary Colonel Guevremont relocated initially to Vancouver and then Calgary where he pursued his doctoral studies at the University of Calgary. In 2010 he defended his thesis “The Royal Canadian Air Force and the Development of a Canadian Aircraft Industry, 1909 – 1949”.

Honorary Colonel Guevremont’s academic and professional pursuits have always centred on military history. These pursuits have included working at the National Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa, ON, as a research assistant, as a guest lecturer at several universities and colleges as well as one of his current activities of conducting battlefield tours in Europe. He has been engaged as an independent lecturer in military history for adult evening courses in Calgary since 2011 and a military affairs columnist for CBC English and French language media since 2005.

Honorary Colonel Guevremont has written extensively on Canadian military history during his academic pursuits and actively promoted the history of a number of RCAF Squadrons through primary research and public lectures and conferences. He is vice-president of the Calgary chapter of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society and a founding Director on the Board of the Calgary Mosquito Society dedicated to the preservation of two vintage Second World War aircraft.  He is also an accomplished linguist, fluent in Finnish and German as well as French and English.
