Mr. George Chapman, QC, senior partner at Chapman, Goddard, Kagan Barristers & Solicitors, was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 402 “City of Winnipeg” Squadron in January 2013.

Honorary Colonel Chapman was born and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Following his graduation from the University of Manitoba in 1950 he joined the military under the University Reserve Training Program and was commissioned in 1952. Continuing his education, he attained the degree LL.B. (Honours) two years later. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1988.

Honorary Colonel Chapman has an impressive list of present and past community service involvement. Currently, he is immediate past - chairman of the Winnipeg West Rotary Service Club and member of the Law Society of Manitoba Fee Arbitration Committee. His past service has spanned a broad range of interests that culminated in a number of awards and recognitions. He is an honoured member of the Canadian and Manitoba Motorsport Halls of Fame and of the Manitoba Runners Association Hall of Fame as well as being a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion St James No 4 Branch, the Canadian Racing Drivers Association, Winnipeg Sports Car Club and the Canadian Bar Association. In motor sport activities, Honorary Colonel Chapman was both an active competitor – being National Champion Racing Car Driver – and also serving in an administrative capacity – National President of the governing body of Motorsport in Canada for 6 years – during which time both the circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec and the Gimli Motorsport Park at Gimli Manitoba were constructed. He is the recipient of the City of Winnipeg Community Service Award and the Canadian Centennial and Canada 125th Anniversary Medals. 

His involvement in aviation includes 30 years as a licensed pilot as well as being a Director and Officer of the Western Canada Aviation Museum during the acquisition and renovations of the present facilities at the Winnipeg International Airport. Honorary Colonel Chapman is also an avid model aircraft builder, winning national and international awards.
