Luc Boivin, a descendant of a family involved in business and agriculture since the foundation of the Saguenay Region, was appointed Honorary Colonel of the  433 Tactical Fighter Squadron, 3 Wing, Bagotville, Quebec in November 2016.

After completing secondary school at the Séminaire de Chicoutimi, Honorary Colonel Boivin went to college at the Cégep de Chicoutimi where he studied economics and management; he then went on to l'Université du Québec à Chicoutimi to study marketing. He also studied dairy processing at l'Institut de technologie agroalimentaire de St-Hyacinthe (St. Hyacinthe agri-food institute of technology).

Honorary Colonel Boivin started working in the family business in 1994 as Vice-President of Finance, Marketing and Business Development. As he was responsible for development, Honorary Colonel Boivin worked in 2001 on the acquisition of the Fromagerie St-Fidèle de Charlevoix (a cheese factory) and has been on its Board of Directors as a shareholder ever since. In 2008, he also founded Biolactis Production Inc. and built an innovative, eco-friendly factory that, since then, has been processing whey from the Boivin cheese factory and from other cheese factories in Quebec. In 2017, he acquired the Fromagerie Lemaire and became the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

He is still on the Board of Directors of the Fromagerie St-Fidèle, of the Conseil des industriels laitiers du Québec (Quebec council of dairy leaders), and of Promotion Saguenay. He recently joined the Board of Directors of the Dairy Processors Association of Canada.

Throughout his career and in spite of his young age, Honorary Colonel Boivin always got involved in the economic development of his region: he chaired the Saguenay CLD (local development centre) and a Canada Economic Development Advisory Committee; he was a Board member of FIER Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean; he was a Board members and Chief of Finance at Arianne Phosphate Inc., a public company; he was a Board member of the Conseil de la transformation alimentaire du Québec (Quebec food processing council), of the Société des fabricants régionaux (regional manufacturers association) and of the Centre d’aide régional sur les aliments (regional assistance centre for food); he also chaired the Board of Directors of the Coopérative funéraire du Fjord (Fjord funeral co-operative).

His sportsmanship and love of hockey drive him back to arenas on a regular basis, both as player and coach. He also likes the outdoors where he fishes and rides skidoos with family and friends.
