Mr. Jenkins, Chair of the Board of OpenText™ Corporation, was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron, 4 Wing Cold Lake AB, in October 2016.

Honourary Colonel Jenkins was born in Hamilton, ON and was a Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron Warrant Officer with 826 Squadron from 1972 to 1978. Subsequently, he joined the Air Force reserves and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1980. He completed his military tour with the Canadian Forces Civilian Instructor Cadre in 1983.

Honourary Colonel Jenkins received an M.B.A. (York University), an EE M.A.Sc. (University of Toronto) and a B.Eng. & Mgt. in Engineering Physics and Commerce (McMaster University).

In addition to OpenText™, Honourary Colonel Jenkins is also Chair of the National Research Council of Canada and Chair of the Ontario Global 100 (OG100). He is the tenth Chancellor of the University of Waterloo and a co-founder of Communitech in Waterloo. He is the past Chair of the Government of Canada reports on: Military Procurement Review; Research and Development Policy Review; and the Innovation and Government Procurement.

Honourary Colonel Jenkins has pioneered many of the technologies commonly used today to manage digital information to increase productivity and governance. He is the author or co-author of numerous books on the Internet: “eGovernment or out of Government” and “Enterprise Information Management” and with his excellency, David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada, the book “Ingenious” which is a history of innovation in Canada.

Honourary Colonel Jenkins is very familiar with the roles and responsibilities of the Honourary Colonel position having served as both the Honourary Lieutenant Colonel and as the Honourary Colonel of the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada Infantry Regiment from 2009 to 2015. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Honourary Colonel Jenkins is an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC) for his contributions to education and innovation in Canada.
