Mr. Bill Mills was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 2 Air Movements Squadron at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario in September 2014.

Honorary Colonel Mills, a Chartered Professional Accountant, was born in Chatham, Kent, England. His managerial experience includes the planning, organizing, leading and controlling of the financial, physical and human resources of an organization to most effectively achieve identified objectives and goals. He has experience in logistics, freight handling, warehousing and distribution systems, property management, customs and passenger terminal operations.

He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nanaimo Port Authority in British Columbia from 1986-2009. Through his leadership the Nanaimo Harbour developed into a more productive port. He balanced the cargo and non-cargo activities of the port while creating a sound financial base for achieving the short and long term goals of the port. He worked with the cruise ship industry to establish Nanaimo as a port of call, established a sound working/financial relationship with BC Ferry Corporation which has four terminals within port boundaries, and oversaw a major seaplane terminal operation.

Honorary Colonel Mills maintains memberships in the Ontario, British Columbia and Canadian Institutes of Chartered Accountants. He has also participated in various capacities in port related associations; The Association of Canadian Port Authorities (past Board member), The Association of Pacific Ports (past Chair of the Board Nominating Committee), The American Association of Port Authorities (past Board member) and The International Association of Ports and Harbours (past member of the Finance Committee).

He also served as Vice President Administration of Malaspina College (now Vancouver Island University) in Nanaimo, BC and the Treasurer and Director of Financial Services of St. Lawrence College with campuses in Kingston, Brockville and Cornwall, Ontario. Since retiring he was a member of the Correctional Services Canada, Citizen Advisory Committee to the Nanaimo Parole Office.

Honorary Colonel Mills recently moved to the Belleville area and is an active member of the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club and Belleville Yacht Club. His affiliation with the Canadian Armed Forces stretches back to his father’s military career as a British Naval Officer.
