Name: Cpl Jason Tibbo

Occupation: Flight Engineer

Unit: 413 Transport and Rescue Squadron, 14 Wing Greenwood, N.S.

Time in CF: 8 years

Hometown: St. John’s, N.L.

“I’m ecstatic,” says Cpl Tibbo. “I’ve always wanted to fly.”

Formerly an AVN tech working on CC-130 Hercules, Cpl Tibbo occasionally had the chance to fly with his squadron.

After acquring maintenance qualifications, he applied for the Flt Engr occcupation and recently completed his basic Flt Engr training in Trenton. He’s on his Hercules operational flying training and will receive his wings before returning to 413 Squadron – trading in his coveralls for a flight suit.

He’ll be the first Flt Engr since the 1970s to be posted directly to the same four-engine fleet he worked on as an AVN tech, allowing him to use the knowledge and technical skills he acquired before changing occupations.

“Having the CC-130 background will definitely help me transition from AVN to Flt Engr,” he said. “I would have accepted any fleet they offered me but going back to Hercs will make things that much easier when I start flying operationally.”
