Command Chief Warrant Officer of the Royal Canadian Air Force

The Royal Canadian Air Force Command Chief Warrant Officer (RCAF CCWO) is the senior enlisted member of the air force. They act as an advisor to the Commander of the RCAF on matters affecting all ranks in matters related to dress, discipline, morale and welfare, and quality of life.

Specifically, they are responsible for:

  • Understanding the issues that personnel face through regular engagements with the aviators of the RCAF
  • Promoting and motivating personnel to achieve the core values of the RCAF: Professionalism, Excellence and Teamwork
  • Acting as caretaker of RCAF history and heritage and promoting its importance
  • Managing the professional development of RCAF non-commissioned members
  • Identifying, tracking and mentoring individuals to achieve senior appointments and positions in the Canadian Armed Forces

Born in Chicoutimi, QC, CWO Gaudreault joined the Canadian Armed Forces in March 1983 as a naval signalman. In July 1984, he was posted to HMCS Ottawa where he immediately deployed on a six‑month tour with Standing Naval Force Atlantic. CWO Gaudreault was transferred to HMCS Preserver for a short period in 1988 before proceeding ashore to MARCOM HQ Halifax, where he applied for an occupation transfer as an airborne electronic sensor operator (AES Op).

After being accepted in the AES Op military occupational structure in 1989, CWO Gaudreault had the opportunity to take part in the last course held at Canadian Forces Base Summerside on the CP-121 Tracker. He was then posted to 423 Squadron in Shearwater, NS, where he spent most of his time at sea and participated in another six-month NATO deployment with HMCS Nipigon, as well as a six-month deployment to Somalia with HMCS Preserver in support of OP DELIVERANCE and OP CORDON.

Upon promotion to sergeant in 1993, CWO Gaudreault was posted to 405 Squadron in Greenwood, NS. Immediately after joining the Squadron, he deployed to Sigonella, Italy, in support of OP SHARP GUARD. In 1996, he was posted to the Air Command Professional Development and Training Centre in Borden, ON, as an instructor on the Junior Leadership course, Senior Air Supervisor, Basic Recruit course and Basic Officer Training course.

Promoted to Warrant Officer (WO) in December 1999, CWO Gaudreault went back to 405 Squadron the following summer to be employed as the Standards WO. In 2001, he deployed to South West Asia as the operations WO for OP APOLLO (Roto 0). He was promoted to Master Warrant Officer (MWO) in 2004 and was posted to the Project Management Office in Ottawa, ON working as an Operational Requirements Manager on the Aurora project. In May 2005, CWO Gaudreault had the honour and privilege of receiving the Order of Military Merit.

In January 2006, he was posted to the newly established Joint Command Centre at Canada Command and was employed as an Operation Watch Officer until June 2008, when he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) and posted to 404 Long Range Patrol and Training Squadron as the Squadron CWO. During this tour, CWO Gaudreault also deployed to Afghanistan as the Wing CWO for the Joint Task Force Afghanistan Air Wing from November 2009 to September 2010. In June 2011, he was transferred to 3 Wing Bagotville as the Wing CWO, where he remained until July 2013. He then returned to the National Capital Region where he served as the Group CWO for the Information Management Group from July 2013 to June 2015 and the Command CWO of the Canadian Joint Operations Command from June 2015 to June 2018.

CWO Gaudreault has accumulated over eight years of sea time and 3,000 flying hours on the CH-124 Sea King and CP-140 Aurora. He was appointed to his current position as the Command CWO of the Royal Canadian Air Force on 14 June 2018.
